Teaser Tuesday with Levi

I’ve been in a talkative mood lately, but Lindsay and Mary have been ignoring me. Sure, they are busy doing this or that, but I’m Levi Carr. How can they ignore me of all people? And I know that Lindsay has been thinking of me so much that she’s borderline obsessed. Yet I’m still being ignored. What the hell? I think each of you should let them know that they better be writing and writing me. I’m sure that you all want more of me. Sounds like Lindsay and Mary need to be told that.

So why am I here? Because apparently, Lindsay and Mary are so busy writing someone else that I have to be the one to come and share the first teaser for Off the Ice. Unfortunately for me, they chose this one.

It still baffles me how close to she is to me when she lies with me. I’m surprised she doesn’t somehow become glued to me. I love it, though. Having her like this is one of my favorite things, not that I would tell her. I can just imagine the reaction if people found out that Captain Levi Carr loves to cuddle.
No, thank you.

Here I am, sharing my personal thoughts with these ladies, and they write all of them down! I guess it comes with the territory. What can I say? At least three ladies want me. Who am I to deny them?

Updates!

We have exciting news, but first we would like to thank everyone for your support for Breakaway. It’s been amazing and we are so very thankful.

We have a couple things we’d like to share with you, but the first is about the second book in the trilogy. Our betas loved it and soon, it will be off to our editor! We are still very much in love with Levi and Presley and book two dives into their lives even further. As soon as we have a synopsis, we’ll share that with you and get a Goodreads page set up too. At that time, we will also announce the title of book two.

Before we get to a surprise, we do want to say that the work for book three has already started.
This is how Mary titles the docs.

Now, here is our surprise. We have a few more things in store for Levi and Presley. One of those things is a novella. It’s a bridge of sorts between book one and book two, covering the Christmas holiday.

You must be thinking that this will be the end our co-authoring together, but you’re wrong. We have a whole new book that we are working. Wondering what it is? First, there are no hockey players. Are you shocked? We were too! This story is going to be completely different.

It’s going to introduce you to Colt and Ivee. Two different people with similar backgrounds. We both have fallen in love with these two and we know that you will too. We are still working it, but as soon as we have more details we will let you know.

Again, thank you for all your support. We appreciate it more than you know!

Ten Things Mary Learned About Lindsay

A few days ago Lindsay post the ten things she learned about me during this process. I may have cried at her kind words. But, I'm so excited to do this post about her.

1.  LP has talent oozing out of her. I'm in awe when she is writing. I could read her stuff all day long!

2. LP is the most loyal person! She is loyal to her BFF, her dog, her Penguins, and to her characters.

3. She is always worried about the characters of the books! I love that she writes with so much respect and makes sure she keeps them real.

4. She has a quick eye for a mistake or detail out of place. Sometimes I miss some of the details, but she is quick to see that it shouldn't belong or that it was written differently before. I LOVE HER FOR THAT!!!

5. She loves Hockey as much as I do!! Well, she might not be as vocal as I am about it, but she is!!

6. *sigh* I might as well say it......she loves the Penguins more than any other person! *shudders* I'm still trying to have her come over to the Blackhawks. I mean, come on, we have the Stanley CUP!!!! But she likes these two guys .. I don't know their names though *shrugs*

7. She is so funny! I'm a big jokester and she is right there with me, sometimes, and it cracks me up.

8. She is passionate about her projects! No matter the story, scene, or project she puts in 150% no matter what. Oh, and she can write some serious SEX scenes !!!

9. LP is a NIGHT OWL! We stay up into the wee hours of the morning writing and when she says she is tired, I know it's got to be close to 3 am! HA!

10. She is the GREATEST PERSON! In all seriousness, LP is indescribable. I can't say enough how thankful I am every day to be part of this amazing journey with her. I respect her and love her more and more every day!! Keep your eye out for her because someday she will be huge!! She has the drive and passion and I can't wait to see what she has planned for in the future

LP I love you so much !!! I can't wait for our next adventure.

Ten Things Lindsay Learned About Mary

A lot goes into writing a book and even more so when you’re writing that book with someone else. You learn a lot about that person when you talk to them every single day for hours at a time. You learn even more when you are working together. Mary and I thought it would be cool if we shared some of the things that we learned about one another with you!

Here are ten things that I learned about Mary.
  1. She is an amazing person. I talked to her every now and then before we started this process, and I knew that she was pretty great. Working with her though has shown me that she is so much more than a book lover and a Chicago Blackhawks fan. She’s sweet, caring, smart, and simply fantastic. She’s a wonderful person, friend, and co-writer.
  2. When Mary gets nervous about something, usually one of her great ideas, she always starts by saying, “Okay, hear me out....” That’s her sign that she’s nervous and there is never any reason for her to be nervous. She has great ideas!
  3. Mary loves making lists as much as I do! It’s good to know someone who enjoys that as well.
  4. The girl is packing lots of enthusiasm and it’s contagious. When Mary gets excited about something, she gets really excited. It’s fun to see that she feels so strongly about something that she can get that excited about it and believe me, it’s hard not to get as pumped about it as she is.
  5. She may be crazy. My BFF thinks I’m “obsessed” with hockey and that I “go crazy” about it. I just really love it. The point I’m getting to is that Mary is twice as bad as I am. She goes absolutely bonkers over some hockey and I love it. It’s great that even though we love different teams, the sport itself brings us even closer because we love it so much.
  6. She is a mind reader. I don’t know if she can read everyone’s mind, but she can read mine. We’ll be writing and she’ll message me about an idea just as I’m about to message her. She’ll post something on Facebook just as I was about to start typing up my own post. Wait a second. Maybe I’m actually reading her mind, but I have a delayed reaction...
  7. Mary is an extremely busy person. I have no clue how she gets everything done with as busy as she is! She’s a great multi-tasker obviously. She must be.
  8. She has 5 degrees!
  9. She can find the PERFECT songs for scenes. I don’t know how she does it, but it seems like it comes to her naturally to find the most amazing songs to go with scenes.
  10. She has a big heart. This sort of goes back to number one on my list, but it should be said anyway. Mary is a loving, sweet person and I'm so thankful to know her!

Check back Thursday to see the ten things that Mary learned about me!

Cover Reveal for Breakaway

Lindsay Paige and Mary Smith are co-authors of The Penalty Kill Trilogy. Their first book, Breakaway is due out on Aug. 15, 2013

About the Authors:

Lindsay Paige and Mary Smith created The Penalty Kill Trilogy through their love of writing and hockey. BREAKAWAY, book one, is set to release August 15, 2013. Stay tuned for more details!

Lindsay Paige is a romance author from North Carolina who has published five books on her own. She is a huge hockey fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and loves to play tennis. When not writing, Paige is focused on completing college.

Mary Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois, but currently lives in West Virginia. She is an avid reader, co-founder of Book Nerds Across America, and author of Melting Away the Ice. She goes nowhere without her cell phone or Kindle. Mary loves anything to do with Chicago Blackhawks, Patrick Sharp, and hockey related!!

Lindsay and Mary created The Penalty Kill Trilogy through their love of writing and hockey. Through their late night writing sessions, text messages, and emails, they have created a trilogy following two characters dealing with college, family, friends, and the one sport that connects them all. Even though Lindsay and Mary are fans of different NHL teams, they are still close friends...except when their teams play each other.

About the Book:

Levi Carr is captain of the Roxboro University Lions hockey team. His rival is James Wayne University and their captain, Trevor McCarthy. After an incident in high school and his mother’s death, Levi does whatever he can to make McCarthy’s life a little harder. When leaving the rivaling campus one night, Levi meets one person who can unknowingly help him mess with McCarthy.

My one job in this is to mess with McCarthy’s head and all it has done is mess with mine.

Presley McCarthy lives in the shadow of her twin brother, Trevor. After being separated when their parents divorced, all Presley heard about was Levi Carr being a bully to Trevor. Now in college, Presley is trying to be her own person, but when she meets Levi Carr, it all changes. But will the changes be good or bad?

He is nothing like my brother described. Maybe I’ve been wrong all along.

Monday's Music

I wasn't sure which song I wanted to choose this week. I scrolled through my options and decided on this song. Whenever I listen to the playlist for Breakaway, which is often, I always start with this song. I'm not sure why, but I do.

Enjoy!

How We Met

(The black text is Mary. The blue text is Lindsay.)

Even though LP and I have only been writing since May, it seems like we’ve been writing forever. Strange, I know?! I was lucky enough to actually meet LP, in person, last Saturday and it was amazing! She’s an incredible person and real! After we parted ways, I started thinking about how this whole whirlwind started and I thought that LP and I would share the story with you.

I have been a blogger for almost 3 years and have been involved with the Indie Community since day one. Through that, I met LP. I met her when another blogger suggested I read her book, Sweetness. I loved that book, to this day! Jake and Emily are amazing characters. Once I did my reviews of all the books that were out (at that time), I found LP on Twitter. It was there I found out she was a hockey fan and I began to stalk her (don’t judge I only stalk the best *wink*). It was during the lock-out, this past season, that we grew closer and then I ended up writing my book, Melting Away the Ice. I asked LP to read it and was extremely shocked when she said yes. I mean, come on … this is Lindsay Paige! She is one of my faves! (I may have fan-girl scream when she said yes to read it). Anyway, one thing lead to another and I was at my day job when she sent me a message via Twitter, saying she was sending me an email. Well, of course I was refreshing my email like mad to figure out what she wanted.  Finally, the email came and she asked me to co-author with her. First, I screamed (yes, literally) and second, I may have fainted (slightly) and third, my co-workers really figured out that I was a loon. Nonetheless, I sent an email back, as fast as my fingers could type “YES”. LP’s response was, “Wanna think about it?” and I said “NO”. I’m a person of few words, when I’m excited!

That is definitely true. When I emailed Mary and she responded, I was overwhelmed by her excitement and willingness. She said yes while only knowing the genre of the books. For a second, I was skeptical that she was agreeing so fast. I kept thinking, “She’s going to hear the full idea and change her mind.” Or “Maybe she’s really busy at work and misread something.” I don’t know what exactly I was thinking, but cowriting was something I have been wanting to do for the longest time and I couldn’t believe that it was actually going to happen. Through the whirlwind of emails that were sent that day, I kept waiting for the ball to drop. But then Mary’s excitement never stopped and it was contagious and I was like, “OMG! IT’S HAPPENING!”

We hashed out my original idea and molded it to make it our idea. Something we both could see where we wanted to go with the story. We talked about every aspect from the actual writing part to what would happen after we finished. Once we got everything in order, we started writing. Two weeks, people! Two weeks was all it took for us to write the first draft. I was amazed, but hooked on the story and writing with Mary flowed so easily. We talked constantly and when an issue arose, we tackled it in an hour tops.

I know that it sounds very strange that we wrote a book in two weeks, but it’s true! We wrote every chance we got. We wrote until wee hours in the morning and even if I had to get up early for work, I didn’t care. This story consumed LP and me from the moment we typed our first sentence. We worked through every detail … together! Never have I been apart of a project that went so smoothly. Now, August 15 is just around the corner!

Exactly! Then we started working on the originally planned book two and it was a struggle. We talked it over and changed the plan. You can read more about that in the update post from last week. Working on the second book got Mary and I thinking about how we were already halfway through our project. It’s weird because we think so much alike that’s it’s scary and super freaky. We were thinking the same thing before we even mentioned it to one another. I think Mary was the first to say something about how she would miss working together when the trilogy was over. I may have laughed, but only because I was literally just thinking the same thing. Working on this trilogy with Mary made working on my solo projects hard. I would get to a hard scene and think, “This would be so much easier if I was writing with Mary. She could help me out or just take over.” I love working with her and it definitely helps that we think so alike or in those moments when we don’t, we’re able to think of something together that we’re both happy with.

I don’t remember who said what, but we definitely came to the conclusion that we wouldn’t mind working together on more projects after this one was finished. Nothing is planned, but the option is there. Plus, we have a lot of stuff planned individually as well that we are working on.

LP is telling you the truth. I was a little emotional thinking that we already halfway through book two and book three would be knocking on our door to be written and then...well, it would be over. I have the same problem with my solo projects. I’m always wondering what LP would do (might need to put that on a tshirt W.W.L.P.D?) But, I’m glad that we talked about it and have the option to write more. LP’s talent has no bounds and even though I still hate commas, my writing is improving! I have her to thank for that! Thanks LP!

Oh, Mary gives me too much credit, but there you go! That’s our story on how we got to this point. We’re very excited about this project and hopefully, in the future, we’ll bring you more books from the both of us.

Updates!

Hey everyone! We have a couple things to update you on today.

First things first, we are in the process of getting a cover made for Breakaway! We hope to share it with you soon.

Secondly, we're really excited about Breakaway and have fallen in love with the characters. So much so, that the entire trilogy will be about Levi and Presley. Originally, we planned to give three pairs of characters a book to make up the trilogy, giving insights to the other characters' lives as we went. Levi and Presley hooked us and quite frankly, stole the show.

We started a good chunk of the originally planned book two and it just wasn't working. Levi and Presley were popping in to scenes like crazy, practically begging for us to come back to them. It was a struggle to write with the second pair and not let Levi and Presley dominate the scenes. Therefore, we agreed to give them what they wanted.

Thirdly, Levi and Presley can now be found on Twitter. We thought this would be a cool way for readers to interact with them and to get a feel for the characters before the release. Plus, like we said, we're hooked on these two and to further bring them to life is an opportunity we jumped at. You can follow the trilogy here, Levi here, and Presley here.

Thanks for stopping by for the updates! Don't forget to like us on Facebook so we can share a Breakaway teaser at 100 likes!

Happy Reading!

Because Mary Wanted to Interview Lindsay

So, not too long ago Lindsay interviewed me and I thought they y'all should know about her!

Okay, so I guess I could ask LP a bunch of Pittsburgh Penguins’ Questions, but who wants to hear that!!! (Just kidding....or am I?) Anyway.......

LP, what made you become an author?
It started accidentally, really. My anxiety was out of control and daydreams were my escape. Jake and Emily’s story came from that. When it wouldn’t get out of my head on its own, I started writing as means to do so. After that, I fell in love with writing and have been doing it ever since!

What is all-time favorite book?
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

Who is the hottest book boyfriend you’ve ever read?
Hottest? I would have to say Nix from Off Limits by Sawyer Bennett. Love me some Nix!

If you were on a desert island and had a choice between a kindle full of unlimited books or Sidney Crosby, which would you choose?
No doubt, I would choose Sidney Crosby. Me & him all alone on a deserted island? There would be a 50/50 chance that we would get along, right? Of course, I would have to take that chance/opportunity! Plus, a kindle would eventually die and I doubt the island has an plugs. See? I thought ahead!

Okay, okay let’s ask about those darn Penguins. Who is your favorite player and why?
I have two favorites because I can’t possibly choose between them. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin because they are both awesome. Just watch them play and you’ll see.

Why the Penguins and have you ever liked another team before?
Okay, so don’t judge me after you hear my story. The BFF introduced me to hockey and I became a Hurricanes fan by association. Justin Williams was my favorite and I was pissed when he got traded. I realized that if I was going to be a true hockey fan, I needed to find a team where I liked a lot of the players and one I could be loyal to no matter what. I began my search, stumbled upon Sidney Crosby and the Penguins, and fell in love. It was like a match made in heaven, especially since penguins are one of my favorite animals. Been a fan ever since! This year, it’s gotten really serious. BFF says I’m obsessed. Haha!

Are you a Kindle girl or would you rather have a physical book in hand?
Darn technology! I’m a Kindle girl, but I still love my paperbacks. However, I've gotten where I only want the paperback if I really loved it.

What is the one thing that has surprised you about co-author with me? For me, it’s how easy our ideas flowed and we always listened to each other’s suggestions.
I was mostly surprised by how creepy we are with our thoughts. I would ask a question and while I was typing my answer, you were too, and BAM! They were almost identical. The fact that we think so alike really surprised me...and creeped me out, as evident by the song I have deemed our theme song. Creepin’ by Eric Church. Another thing that surprised me was the scale of your awesomeness. I knew you were awesome beforehand, but working with you and talking to you almost every day had your awesomeness blowing me away!

What are you most excited about for Book 1: Breakaway that you want everyone to know?
Levi. Watch out, ladies. Levi Carr stole our hearts and we’re sure he’s going to steal yours as well. There’s more than meets the eye with him. Out of all the characters I’ve written, he’s my favorite.

Now rumor has it that you may like a certain Blackhawks player *cough* Patrick Sharp *cough* is that because of all the brainwashing I’ve been doing to you? Should I purchase your first Blackhawks jersey for you? *wink*
I was waiting on this question. I won't confirm nor deny the rumor. What I will say is that if I happen to like Patrick Sharp, it would be because of all your brainwashing, Mary. If you felt inclined to buy something based whether I may like him, a jersey isn't necessary. If the rumor is true, though, a t-shirt would be just fine. ;)

Because Lindsay Wanted to Interview Mary

Hey everyone! I decided that I wanted to interview Mary and today, I’m sharing that interview. Thanks for dealing with my questions and teasing, Mary!

Alrighty, Mary. What is your favorite book of all time? Only one!

That is simple, it is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I have read it a million times. Mr. Darcy was one of my first book boyfriends

If you could meet any author, who would it be and why?

Well, this is hard, but besides Lindsay Paige *wink* I would love to meet Rachel Higginson. She is THE ONLY author, the ONLY, who has sucked me into a world that world and I never want to leave. On top of that, she is the only author to make me fall in love with character, then hate that same character, and then fall in love with character again.

Who is your current book boyfriend?

O..M..G!! I have to choose only one!!!! That is nuts!!! *deepbreath*

Well, I guess Levi from LP’s and my new series.

What was the last book you read that you really enjoyed?

Since I have writing with LP and my own book I haven’t read much, but I did just finish two: AnguiSH by Lila Felix and Always by Lindsay Paige.

How did you come to love hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks? Who is your favorite player?

Top Ten Reasons We Love Hockey

It's no secret that we love hockey and today we figured we would share our top ten reasons why we love the great sport of hockey. Enjoy!

1. Mary - It’s a highly intense game

Lindsay - It’s sort of like reading. You get wrapped up in the emotions and energy from the game and forget about everything else.

2. Mary - You never know what to expect. One moment you are watching your favorite player and then the next you are seeing the other team score.

Lindsay - ^ True. I love that the game isn’t over until the buzzer sounds. A lot can happen in a few seconds.

3. Mary - I love that there are not silly penalties call. For example, when you check someone into the boards there is not a flag thrown and a consequence for it.

Lindsay - Fights. You can already feel the intensity on the ice and, well, fights are fun to watch.

4. Mary - Our teams care about their fans and the communities. We are always seeing on their sites helping out, especially with children and the military.

Lindsay - I second that. It seems like there is always something going on where they are giving back in some way.

5. Mary - The teams are always playing pranks on each other. Nothing hurtful either, just fun/silly things. I see them all the time on BTV (Blackhawks TV).

Lindsay - I’ve only ever seen this one, but I love Stormy. He’s the mascot for the Carolina Hurricanes and he’s hilarious! I can remember when they were playing the Sharks and Stormy had a stuffed animal shark that he was beating against a table. That’s one of my favorite/funny Stormy moments.

6. Mary - I love how close the teammates are. They are all truly like family and stick up for each other.

Lindsay - Going to a game is never disappointing. During intermissions, the flow keeps going and it keeps the energy high. Plus, sometimes they bring out little hockey playing kids and they are adorable!

7. Mary - Hockey players are extremely loyal to their home countries. It’s great to see all their support.

Lindsay - I love that feeling when you learn one of your favorite players just got an extension. It’s just amazing to see how every fan gets so invested in the sport and their favorite team/players.

8. Mary - I love how strong players are. If they take a puck to the face or are hurt badly, they still get up and keep on playing.

Lindsay- ^ That is definitely something to love. I love how hockey always makes everything better. Always. Either you read something online, look at highlights, or go to a game, it always makes things better.

9. Mary - Hockey players can be tough as nails on the ice, but are really caring, sweet people off the ice.

Lindsay - Playoffs. Takes the intensity to a whole new level. Plus, I like to watch if even my team doesn’t make it because it’s, well, the playoffs.

10. HOT HOCKEY PLAYERS!!!!!!
Mary - Here are my two favorite: Patrick Sharp and Viktor Stalberg

Lindsay- My two hockey hotties are: Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Monday's Music

*waves* Hello everyone and Happy Monday Music !!!

Mary here and I am very excited to do this week's post. Now, last week you were introduced to Levi.  So, I thought I would tell you a little bit more about him.

First, how about a little picture of Levi, you know, just because.....

HE IS HOT!!! *insert swoon here*

*wipes drool*

Okay, Okay...trying to focus now ...

Now this song is the one that Lindsay and I chose as Levi's Theme Song. If you really listen to the words it just tears at your heart and it really fits Levi in our story.

Please enjoy Shinedown - Simple Man: (I have to say this is one of my most favorite songs from this band. Amazing!)
